Driving

IMPORTANT: In Mexico, in order to turn left across highways, generally you will need to move to the right into the service lane that runs parallel to the highway and wait for the left turn signal to turn left or to make a u-turn. Be careful! People run the lights often.

From the airport, take the highway going north towards Tepic/Compostela, drive about ten miles or fifteen minutes and you get to Bucerias (see the map below).You will see service lanes starting on the right, get off before the first light so you can turn left at the light. To your left, you will see across the highway an OXXO store and a big arch that says Hotel Decameron. Drive through the arch and down to the end where the hotel is on your left. Now turn right on Lázaro Cárdenas, go five blocks and you will see Hotel Palmeras on your left. Watch out for the "topes" (speed bumps)!

By Public Transportation

It's best to go to the money exchange in the airport and change $50US into pesos for the taxi or bus ride to Bucerias. The taxi drivers will accept your dollars, but at a very poor rate of exchange for you. The buses only take pesos.

Taking a Taxi

A taxi from inside the airport can cost you more or less $400 pesos. Make sure that you check at the airport the published rates to Bucerias and hold the drivers to that rate. However, for a short walk accross the road via the footbridge, you can hail a taxi there for about half the rate!

Taking a Bus

Over the footbridge, take any bus that says Bucerias. They pass every few minutes, and cost around $12 pesos per person.

About twenty-five minutes from the airport, after you see a large supermarket called Mega on the right, you'll pass two traffic lights and then the road starts dipping sharply and curving right. Get off at the bottom of the hill. On the corner is a Mini Super on Matamoros Street (see the map below).

Cross the highway, go left 100 ft. and take the first street on your right, go 200 feet to Mark's Restaurant. Turn right again and you'll see the hotel on your left down half a block. It's a five minute walk from the bus stop, but if you have a lot of heavy bags, you're better off taking a taxi from the airport.
